What Could Happen If You Gave Your Book Three Dedicated Days?
I was talking with an author recently when she said something I have heard in a hundred different ways over the years:
“Ruth, I really want to finish my book. Life just keeps getting in the way.”
I understood immediately.
Because life does get in the way.
There is always another email waiting for an answer.
Another client who needs something.
Another meeting.
Another deadline.
Another family responsibility.
And somewhere between everything that feels urgent, the book that matters deeply to you gets moved to tomorrow.
Then tomorrow becomes next week.
Next week becomes next month.
And eventually, you begin wondering whether you will ever create the space to finish what you started.
But I have learned something after decades of working with authors:
Books rarely get finished because someone suddenly “finds” more time.
They get finished because someone decides the book deserves protected time.
That is a very different thing.
Your Book Needs More Than Leftover Time
Writing a book is not another item to squeeze between meetings.
It requires a different quality of attention.
You need space to think.
Space to hear your own voice again.
Space to question what the book is really trying to say.
And sometimes, you need to physically step away from your normal environment to see the book differently.
That is one of the reasons I created the Palm Springs Writer’s Retreat, taking place November 10, 11 and 12, 2026.

That is why part of our Palm Springs experience will include an exclusive behind-the-scenes visit to the historic Sunnylands Estate, often called the “Camp David of the West.”
Presidents, royalty, diplomats, and world leaders have gathered there for important conversations that shaped history.
I find that incredibly fitting.
