Coffee Is on Me: Why the Best Opportunities Begin With a Conversation
Coffee Is on Me: Why the Best Opportunities Begin With a Conversation
There is something magical about sitting across from someone with a great cup of coffee and absolutely no agenda.
No presentation.
No carefully prepared pitch.
No pressure to impress.
Just two people sharing ideas, experiences, and possibilities.
And lately, I've been thinking about how much we need more of that.
In a world where so much of our business happens through screens, emails, social media, and virtual meetings, I sometimes wonder if we've forgotten how powerful a simple, face-to-face conversation can be.
Because some of the most extraordinary opportunities in my life and career have started with something incredibly simple.
A conversation.
And sometimes, a question.
Why not?
The Power of Showing Up Without an Agenda
Recently, I found myself wanting to reconnect with people in my community in a more personal way.
Not through another webinar.
Not through a structured networking event.
Not through a presentation where everyone arrives with a particular expectation.
I simply wanted to sit down, share a cup of coffee, and hear what people were creating.
So I decided to extend an invitation to meet at Peet's Coffee on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica.
And because I love surprising people with something special, I offered to buy coffee for the first ten people who joined me.
Why?
Because connection doesn't always need a strategy.
Sometimes it simply needs an invitation.
What Happens When We Create Space for Possibility?
Over the years, I've worked with authors, entrepreneurs, CEOs, speakers, and thought leaders who have extraordinary ideas.
Some have books they've wanted to write for years.
Others have powerful messages they want to share through speaking, television, podcasts, or media.
Some are building businesses and brands that have the potential to make a meaningful impact.
And yet, I've noticed something interesting.
Often, the biggest challenge isn't a lack of talent, experience, or opportunity.
It's that we spend so much time trying to figure everything out on our own.
We overthink.
We wait until our ideas are perfectly formed.
We convince ourselves we need more clarity before we can share what we're imagining.
But what if clarity doesn't always come before the conversation?
What if the conversation is what creates the clarity?
I've watched someone's entire perspective shift when they begin speaking about an idea they're passionate about.
Suddenly, possibilities emerge.
Connections become obvious.
And something that felt overwhelming moments earlier begins to feel achievable.
Not because they received a complicated new strategy.
But because someone listened.
Asked a thoughtful question.
And helped them see what was already possible.
Your Next Big Opportunity May Begin With One Conversation
As a brand visibility strategist, book coach, and author, I've spent decades helping people amplify their voices and expand their influence.
I've seen how a simple introduction can lead to a publishing opportunity.
How a meaningful conversation can become a speaking engagement.
How sharing a book idea can open the door to a completely new direction.
And how relationships that begin casually can grow into extraordinary collaborations.
But here's what I believe matters most.
It's not simply about what you can gain from a conversation.
It's about what you can create together.
When we approach people with curiosity instead of an agenda, we create space for something unexpected.
And sometimes, that's exactly where the magic happens.
The Spirit of Generation Why Not?®
One of the messages I've shared throughout my writing and speaking career is that we often limit ourselves before life ever does.
We decide something is too complicated.
Too ambitious.
Too late.
Or simply not possible.
But what happens when we challenge those assumptions?
Why not write the book?
Why not share your story?
Why not explore that TEDx idea?
Why not connect with someone whose work inspires you?
Why not create a meaningful conversation that opens a door neither of you expected?
That spirit of possibility is at the heart of my book, Generation Why Not?®
And it's also how I choose to approach relationships.
With curiosity.
With openness.
And with a willingness to see what becomes possible when people come together.
A Simple Invitation to Reconnect
Perhaps you've been thinking about writing a book.
Maybe you're ready to become more visible, share your expertise, pursue speaking opportunities, or explore what comes next for your business.
Or perhaps you'd simply enjoy connecting with someone who understands the excitement, uncertainty, and possibility of bringing a big idea into the world.
You don't always need another plan.
Sometimes you need a meaningful conversation.
A fresh perspective.
Someone who listens and sees the possibilities you may have overlooked.
So here's my invitation.
Reach out to someone you've been meaning to reconnect with.
Invite them for coffee.
Ask what they're working on.
Listen.
Share your ideas.
And see what unfolds.
Because the next chapter of your life or business may not begin with a complicated strategy.
It may begin with three simple words.
Coffee is on me.
And one powerful question.
