How High Achievers Argue for Their Limitations…And the 3 Steps to Break the Pattern
We don’t usually talk about this.
Especially in the world of high-achievers, authors, leaders, CEOs, founders, and creators.
People who get things done.
People who are known for their vision, drive, and follow-through.
But lately, I’ve been noticing a pattern not only in my clients…
but in myself.
A pattern I’ve come to call:
“Arguing for our limitations.”
It sounds like:
- “This is how I’ve always done it.”
- “This is just how I am.”
- “I don’t have time.”
- “I’ve already tried that.”
- “I’m just not good at follow-up.”
And what’s fascinating is this:
These limitations usually show up strongest in the people with the greatest potential.
Why?
Because high achievers have built entire identities on what has “worked” in the past.
Even when those patterns no longer serve us.
We stay with the familiar because the familiar is safe.
Predictable.
Known.
Even if it’s not working anymore.
We would rather tolerate an ineffective pattern than risk the unknown outcome of change.
And yet…
Your next level requires a pattern shift.
Not pushing harder.
Not hustling more.
Not adding 27 new strategies.
A pattern shift.
Here are the three practices that have helped me and my clients break the patterns that dim visibility, slow momentum, and block abundance:
1. IDENTIFY THE PATTERN THROUGH JOURNALING
Not analytical journaling.
Not “let me figure this out” journaling.
But the kind of writing where you let your hand move faster than your mind.
You bypass the ego.
You bypass the fear.
You bypass the part of you that says, “I’m fine, I’m functioning.”
And suddenly…
the truth emerges.
Patterns reveal themselves when you stop trying to “think” your way through them.
2. WAIT FOR THE EMOTIONAL FRICTION
There is always a moment when an old pattern becomes emotionally uncomfortable.
That moment is the gateway.
When something inside you whispers:
“I can’t keep doing it this way.”
“I’m tired of carrying this.”
“This is costing me too much.”
That friction isn’t a failure.
It’s a frequency shift.
It’s your new pattern calling you forward.
I’m currently on Day 20 of a 40-day follow-up pattern reset, and it’s teaching me more about alignment, courage, and receiving than any business strategy ever has.
3. DO A “PROFIT AUDIT” (THIS IS LIFE-CHANGING)
Here’s the structure:
- Write your to-do list.
- Circle everything that actually moves the financial needle.
- In a different color, circle everything you should have delegated.
It’s both sobering and liberating.
Most high achievers spend their time on what’s familiar, not what’s profitable.
A Profit Audit exposes the truth.
And on the other side of that truth?
Freedom.
Focus.
Momentum.
Money.
